How We Work
The Century Council's Strategy
The Century Council employs a pragmatic, three-fold strategy to achieve its primary goals of reducing illegal underage drinking and drunk driving:
- Grass-roots participation: We strive to secure community-wide, grass-roots participation in all of our programs.
- Innovation: We develop, test and fine-tune innovative approaches, and then share what we learn with others across the country.
- Partnerships: We act as a catalyst to form national, state and local partnerships with law enforcement, public agencies, educators, insurers, health care professionals, religious leaders, youth groups and private organizations.
Core Program Areas
To implement this strategy, The Council launched a broad range of successful efforts to fight alcohol abuse in five core program areas:
- Education (middle school through college) to prevent underage drinking problems. more
- Hardcore drunk driving. more
- Legislative efforts to pass tough laws against drunk driving and underage drinking and driving. more
- Ethnic programs for culturally diverse populations. more
- Alcohol industry support to help servers and sellers prevent drunk driving and illegal underage alcohol purchases. more
