Sixth Annual Congressional Awards Reception
In July, The Century Council hosted its sixth annual Congressional Awards reception on Capitol Hill where we awarded 37 Members of Congress for their ongoing dedication to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. Understanding the scope of this national problem, this year's award recipients joined us to help educate youth and their parents from middle school all the way up to college-aged students about responsible decision-making concerning beverage alcohol. Some Members launched our initiatives in their district, others signed onto the Council-supported HR 4453 (The Underage Drinking Prevention Act), and several Members did both. The Century Council sponsors D.C. United's 2008 season
We partnered with the most successful franchise in Major League Soccer, D.C. United, to become an Official Corporate Partner of their 2008 season. Focusing on Ask. Listen. Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don't Mix™, D.C. United hosted "Ask Listen Learn Day" on Sunday, June 22nd, in which public awareness messages appeared on the stadium video screen and in team programs and guides – in English and Spanish – and game attendees received Ask, Listen, Learn branded items. We recognize the important role that sports such as soccer play in the development of healthy and active lifestyles, and are pleased to bring Ask, Listen, Learn to adult and youth soccer fans during D.C. United's 2008 season.
