For the past 20 years, The Century Council has been a leader in the fight against drunk driving and underage drinking. Over these 20 years, alcohol-impaired fatalities have decreased 32%, and underage drinking has reached a historic low of 27%. We’re proud of our contribution; yet collaboration with key partners made a stronger impact.
The Century Council will be taking a moment to celebrate our accomplishments, but also to look forward to the next 20 years. We’ve identified “20 People to Watch” that we feel will define this period. We’ve accomplished a great deal – but we must continue to save lives and keep our youth safe and alcohol –free. There’s still plenty of work yet to be done.
We’d like to recognize a few of our partners that have made our work possible:
The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) is the non-profit professional membership association that sets the standard for best practices in quality physical education and sport. Check out their Twitter feed for up-to-date news on physical education.
DC Scores partners with urban schools to provide a high quality, team-based program that integrates soccer, poetry and service-learning. Their innovative approach improves students’ health, academic achievement and civic engagement. We’ve been very impressed with the difference they make in students’ lives, and we’re happy to work with them.
Girl Talk: Desire to Inspire is a student-to-student mentoring program that pairs middle school girls with high school girls who serve as mentors. Weekly meetings are held before or after school, during which the high school "Leader" conducts valuable lessons that address issues middle school girls face every day. We’ve worked with Girl Talk since its inception in 2002. Check out their Twitter feed to learn more about their work.
We'll be highlighting more partners in the weeks to come. Stay tuned!
