The students at the University of Alabama have rushed to Twitter to urge former NBA all-star MVP and Century Council spokesperson Shaquille O’Neal to make an appearance at the November 5th University of Alabama versus Louisiana State University football game. Their goal: to promote the student-led campaign “Less Than U Think” initiative. The award-winning “Less Than U Think” is an effort designed to raise awareness regarding the dangers of alcohol overconsumption, and to reduce the amount of binge drinking occurring on and off-campus.
Shaquille O’Neal has recently partnered with The Century Council to fight binge drinking on college campuses. He will work alongside college students to bring their voice to life on this issue by directing student-created videos addressing college binge drinking.
In their bid to draw their peers’ attention to the campaign, UA advertising and public relations students have launched a social media campaign on Twitter (#GetShaq2UA), in the hopes of convincing the former basketball star to visit their campus during the biggest event on their sports calendar. Both the faculty and the students believe that Shaq would provide a huge boost to the campaign and allow it to become recognizable on campus as well as nationwide.
Will the students and faculty of the University of Alabama be able to convince Shaq to visit their campus this weekend and direct their PSA? Or, have they already won by engaging their peers in this conversation?
