The passing of Owsley Brown II, former Chairman of Brown-Forman, will be marked by remembrances of his commitment to a company that has expanded around the world, a commitment to his community through his (and his family’s) many philanthropic initiatives in, and around, Louisville and to his nation through his military service.
Less well known, however, was Mr. Brown’s commitment to our nation’s young people through his staunch support for his company’s and industry’s social responsibility initiatives. As a company, Brown-Forman has become a leader in the fight against drunk driving and underage drinking. And, as an industry leader, Owsley Brown’s commitment guided spirits producers around the globe to strive for the next level.
Owsley Brown was chief executive at Brown-Forman as The Century Council was getting its feet on the ground and building a strong foundation for our many achievements over these past twenty years. We appreciate the support he provided for our founding and for instilling in our organization values which have been instrumental to our success. May his impactful legacy live on.
