The National Judicial College and the Association for Student Conduct Administration have joined forces to develop a research project involving students who have gone through their college/university disciplinary process as a result of a violation to the institution's alcohol regulations. This project explores students' perceptions of the various phases of the college disciplinary process and its effectiveness in reducing recidivism.
Research Highlights:
- 39% of the students said that common sanctions were deterrents, whereas 79% said that such sanctions simply make students more cautious so as not to get caught in the future.
- Over 50% of those who had an alcohol assessment specifically stated that “it would deter t hem from underage drinking or excessive drinking in the future”.
- 80% of those who participated in an alcohol treatment program indicated that the knowledge gained in the program would deter them from repeating their behavior.
