College administrators, educators, and coaches joined forces today with the distilled spirits industry to launch a new million dollar-plus program to help stop the misuse of alcohol on college campuses. Alcohol 101 Plus is an innovative, interactive CD program designed to help prevent the misuse of alcohol on college campuses. It addresses issues concerning alcohol poisoning, sex, alcohol and student-athletes, freshmen, Greeks, judicial policy offenders, and DUI offenders.

Developed by The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by America's leading distillers, Alcohol 101 Plus is a comprehensive CD program set on a "virtual campus," using Sony game technology, interactive video scenarios, and 3D animation to target at-risk populations of the student body, including Freshmen, Greeks, Student-Athletes, and Judicial Policy Offenders.

It also includes a "Virtual Bar," where a user can "virtually" drink and learn about how alcohol affects their individual blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and how long it takes for their BAC to return to zero; an interactive game developed by SONY, b4udrink, which tests a user's knowledge about alcohol; and, a "Virtual Brain," which conveys information about how alcohol affects the brain.

Alcohol 101 Plus reflects input from a team of over 50 on-campus practitioners. Contributors include: U.S. Department of Education; National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism; National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA); and The BACCHUS and GAMMA Peer Education Network.
