During National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, six Washington Redskins joined The Century Council to encourage kids to “say ‘YES’ to a healthy lifestyle and ‘NO’ to underage drinking.” In attendance were Anthony Armstrong, Fred Davis, Graham Gano, Lorenzo Alexander, Kedric Golston, and former Redskin Derrick Dockery. Dave Feldman, Sportscaster of Fox 5, emceed the gameshow event.

The players and sports personality teamed up with The Century Council in a gameshow style setting in conjunction with the Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix program. The athletes covered trivia topics from underage drinking to living a healthy lifestyle. The event brought parents and kids together for an afternoon to ‘be on the set’ of the gameshow and as a result jump start the conversation about the risks of underage drinking between parents and kids.

  • Asklistenlearn.com encourages kids to “say ‘YES’ to a healthy lifestyle and ‘NO’ to underage drinking” by offering kids interactive and educational games and videos.
  • Ask, Listen, Learn utilizes role models such as Speed Skater Apolo Anton Ohno and U.S. track stars Tyson Gay and Lolo Jones as “SuperStars.” Ask, Listen, Learn Team members will be encouraged to read Questions and Answers from SuperStars to learn how elite athletes dealt with peer pressure as they were growing up. SuperStars will encourage kids to make responsible decisions and live a healthy lifestyle.
  • Ask, Listen, Learn has a supplement in Scholastic where teachers may find information about the program and how to incorporate it into their lesson plans, kids can tear out posters, and can play educational games to learn about living a healthy lifestyle and saying no to underage drinking.

“Being able to get Redskins in front of Capitol Hill staffers and their children to play a trivia gameshow was a fun and exciting way to approach the important topics of healthy lifestyles and underage drinking. The Century Council is always looking for innovative ways to engage our nation’s youth about the dangers of underage drinking and this event fit well with that goal,” Susan, Chairman of The Century Council.
