The Century Council wants parents across the country to make a New Year's Resolution to keep their teens safe and alcohol-free in 2004. The Council is providing tips to parents in an effort to prevent underage drinking and to highlight the strong influence that parents wield in their teens decisions to say no to alcohol. Last year, 2,902 youths under the age of 21 died in alcohol-related traffic fatalities, accounting for nearly 17% of all alcohol-related traffic fatalities on our nation's roads during 2002.   read more

Alcohol 101 Plus™, a dynamic interactive CD-ROM program designed to stop the misuse of alcohol on campus, received the coveted FREDDIE Award in the category of Health and Wellness at the 29th Annual International Health and Medical Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles. The International Health and Medical Media Awards, also known as the "Oscars of Medicine," are recognized as a preeminent competition of educational health and medical media. Alcohol 101 Plus was also a finalist in the categories of Community Health and Behavioral Diseases.   read more

Helping to launch an Educational Campaign to Combat Drunk Driving is a colorful van dubbed the Blood Alcohol Educator (BAE). The "BAE cybervan" is traveling the country to distribute The Blood Alcohol Educator (BAE) CD-ROM, a credit-card sized CD-ROM in both Spanish and English that educates users on how alcohol affects their Blood Alcohol Concentration level.   read more

Students got a life-saving lesson about the dangers of underage drinking and driving today during a presentation at Estes Park High School from Brandon Silveria, a young man who was involved in an alcohol-related crash at age 17 just before his high school prom. During the program, Silveria told students his wrenching story of how as a high school student he had everything a teenager could want—a job, girlfriend and plans for the future—until he had a few drinks at a party and chose to drive home.   read more

The Century Council released a national survey that reveals that most federal and state opinion leaders believe that fighting hardcore drunk driving is a priority. Yet, when asked questions regarding the average blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of drunk drivers arrested for DWI, the number of fatally injured drivers who were repeat offenders, and the associated risk of a motor vehicle crash for drivers with a high BAC, an alarming number of federal and state opinion leaders answered incorrectly.   read more
