The Century Council is a leader in the development of innovative approaches to assist communities in their efforts to eliminate drunk driving and underage drinking. We constantly monitor the environment, through primary and secondary research, to analyze trends and identify variables that may have an impact in these important issues. This research provides the solid foundation that characterizes the development of our initiatives.

Throughout the years, we have worked with numerous nationally-recognized experts in various fields to develop programs and other outreach initiatives. We also have a long tradition of collaboration with government agencies.

Alcohol 101 Plus™: Making Safe and Responsible Decisions about Alcohol – The Use of Technology in Alcohol Education

For nearly 15 years, we have assisted colleges and universities with innovative strategies for alcohol education on campus. Alcohol 101 Plus™ was developed as an extension of the award-winning, interactive Alcohol 101 program. One of the first of its kind, the Alcohol 101 program was designed to compliment an institution’s existing alcohol education efforts.

Building on the success of the Alcohol 101 program, we sought to update and improve on its success by reviewing its creative execution, providing targeted approaches for at-risk populations on campus, increasing the guidance for campus facilitators, and upgrading the technological performance of the program.

Using the original program as a foundation, we brought together college alcohol experts, campus practitioners, and government agencies including the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the U.S. Department of Education. More than fifty outside experts joined the effort to create and review program content and messaging.

The final product provided a range of new creative options including motion-capture technology, additional video scenarios, and access to online resources. We also produced a new Facilitator's Guide with lesson plans, learning outcomes, and suggested uses tied to the amount of time spent on a specific topical area.

We recently converted Alcohol 101 Plus™ into an online educational tool. In addition to its award-winning and evaluated contents, Alcohol 101 Plus™ in its new format now offers: a B4Udrink tutorial; pre- and post- student surveys and downloadable educational materials. Completion of the free registration form is required in order for educators to access complementary Alcohol 101 Plus™ educational tools.

Alcohol 101 Plus™ materials have been distributed to over 2400 colleges and universities nationwide, and the program’s reach will continue to expand now that the program is online at www.alcohol101plus.org.

We invite you to read the latest evaluation of Alcohol 101 Plus™.
