New Survey
The Century Council commissioned a new national survey of young adults (18-24 year olds) including college students and non-students to investigate the impacts of college attendance and an active and healthy lifestyle, including involvement in sports, on underage drinking behaviors. The survey found that non-students report more dangerous behaviors than their college student peers - drinking at an earlier age, drinking more often, and consuming more. National Teen Driver Safety Week
The Century Council is a longtime advocate for increasing safety on our country's roadways, and we support the goals and ideals of National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 19-25, 2008). This year we partnered with the National Transportation Safety Board, the Ad Council, Nationwide Insurance, and the American School Counselor Association to distribute an interactive web-based game that highlights how distractions make it increasingly difficult for a teen driver to safely operate their vehicle. The game features images and messages that teens can relate to which we hope will remind them to drive safely. Please join our effort by sending the game to a teen and encourage them to send it to a friend.
Washington Area Girls Soccer Tournament
The Century Council will be sponsoring the Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS) Tournament taking place October 11-13, in the Greater Washington DC area. The tournament will feature more than 5,000 girls from across the country in age groups ranging from U-11 to U-19. Continuing our strong relationship with the National Soccer Hall of Fame, we will be sharing a tent and display area and distributing promotional items and educational materials. We also were a featured sponsor of the Dulles National Soccer Tournament that occurred August 23-24 in Northern Virginia. Through both tournaments we will be able to educate more than 10,000 youth about the dangers of underage drinking and the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. 
"What You Don't Know"
This teen-directed public service announcement (PSA) reflects the social and physical risks of underage drinking. The unique PSA concept – recently selected by representatives of MTV, the Ad Council, and 20,000 online voters – aims to deter teens from underage drinking. The PSA features two teen girls, "Kristen" and "Sarah," who are shocked to discover that a video of "Sarah" drinking at a party surfaced on a social networking website. Viewers are instructed to visit www.alot2lose.com to find out what happens next. In three short videos posted on the site, the girls explain that they felt "Alone," were "Benched," and got "Busted." After being featured on The Weekend Today Show, views of these videos reached over 25,000 on YouTube. Watch the videos here:
"That Super-Bad Style"
A look at prom styles through the years reveals "super bad" dress, hair, and transportation choices; but for a person under the age of 21, the choice to drink alcohol on prom night is not only illegal, but also has the potential to be "deadly bad." We produced this multimedia e-card to highlight some of these choices and to provide a prom tips list for parents. Watch it now:
