Get Involved: Girl Talk

Help encourage teen girls stay safe and alcohol-free.

Girls, please help us make a difference by encouraging your peers to lead healthy lifestyles and to say "no" to underage drinking! If you're involved in a club or participate on a sports team or any group activity, you can bring Girl Talk to your community!

Your involvement can be as simple as sharing part of this toolkit with a friend, parent, teacher or counselor. Better yet, you could have one (or more!) meetings about issues such as the social consequences of underage drinking, and the specific physical risks which affect teenage girls.

How do you get started?

Contact someone. You can gather three girls or three hundred! If you're planning to hold a Girl Talk meeting at school, you'll probably need to get approval from your coach, organization leader, or counselor. Contact the right person to get approval for your event.

Set a date. Back-to-school, Homecoming, Prom, and just before Winter or Spring break are good times of the year to have a Girl Talk event - though you could host one whenever the need arises. Remember: you have the power to make a difference in one friend's life or in the lives of many of your peers!

Review the materials. After obtaining approval and setting a meeting date, review the materials included in the toolkit. Pay special attention to stories and situations that are relevant to your local community. For example, check your local or school newspaper for stories about underage drinking.

Let us know. Don't forget to email us (tcc@centurycouncil.org) to let us know how your Girl Talk meeting went – we know it will be a success!
