Get Invoved: Parents, You're Not Done Yet
Are your students drinking on college campuses? Get the discussion started as soon as possible
College, university, and high school staff are often the frontline in the fight against underage drinking by making sure that parents are equipped with the information they need to start discussion with their teens.
We encourage colleges and universities to send this brochure to the parents of their incoming freshman classes or include it in the freshman orientation package. Schools can also include the brochure in email communication to parents in advance of orientation, move-in day, homecoming, or spring break.
We also encourage high schools and counselors to distribute the brochure to parents of the senior class to allow parents to begin the discussion as soon as possible.
Parents, get the conversation started:
- How will you decide whether or not to drink at college?
- What will you do if you find yourself at a party with only alcohol to drink?
- What will you do if your roommate only wants to drink and party?
- What will you do if you find a student passed out in the bathroom?
- How will you handle it if you are asked to baby-sit someone who is very drunk?
